I.R.I.S. has successfully delivered an Electronic Document Management, archiving and collaboration solution to the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union
|
Louvain-la-Neuve, 23 August 2010 - I.R.I.S., a listed company (EURONEXT Brussels: IRI), specialising in Intelligent Document Recognition (IDR)1 , Enterprise Content Management (ECM)2 and Optimized IT Infrastructure (ICT)3 , is pleased to announce that an Electronic Document Management, archiving and collaboration solution has been put in place to the complete satisfaction of the West African Economic and Monetary Union’s Commission.
The West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) is a sub-regional organisation created in 1994 between eight West African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo with the aim of creating a common economic and monetary market, coordinating national policies in various sectors and harmonising the legal framework..
The UEMOA has generated –and inherited from the previous institutions – a volume of documents equivalent to over 600-metres of shelves. In addition to the physical documents, the UEMOA has also accumulated a wealth of multimedia archives. These documents make up the knowledge base of the institution, which is required to produce all information at the request of one of its Member States, which, in turn, produce information and documents for its intention.
Jean-Pierre Delva, Business development manager for I.R.I.S. where he is in charge of Africa as his sales territory: “The technology solution is based on IRISNext™ and allows paper documents to be digitised. However, the solution also allows for the electronic archiving of all types of digital documents, such as documents generated with office tools and multimedia files and makes it possible to swiftly and easily exchange electronic documents with the member states and institutions that need access to these documents.”
Papa Mamadou Diop, IT Systems Director for the WAEMU : “The I.R.I.S. team have been very efficient in accomplishing the project and in the installation of the IRISNext™ application which fully meets the expectations set out in the specifications documents. I particularly rated the quality of the management of the project, the analysis and the sheer command of the technology on display which attests to an in-depth experience I.R.I.S. has in the field of document management.”
The recent flooding of the rooms where the WAEMU kept its archives highlighted the importance of digitising these archives before they might be lost for good.
Papa Mamadou Diop : “The reduction of the amount of physical storage space required is one advantage, but the easy access to the documents, the curtailed amount of time that goes into document processing and document conservation, as well as the reduction of the risk of loss also count as major benefits. The way this combines to relieve the duties performed by our members of staff is also certain to save time. The swift implementation and intuitive ease of use of the IRISNext™ software are also major strong points. Managing the change that is involved in turning to use this application remains a challenge however. Which is why the second phase of the project is aimed at further improving the use of the application by the Commission’s various departments.”
