With I.R.I.S. ScanNews, you can easily create and publish electronic press reviews. With just a few clicks of the mouse, your newspaper articles are scanned, cut, reassembled and circulated. You can also import and circulate in your press reviews any kind of article directly available in electronic format such as PDF and HTML.

The press reviews may be circulated either in paper form or electronically via your intranet/extranet site. You can create:

  • A printed press review
    The printed press review is a print-out that includes a fly-leaf, a table of contents and the articles of the review. The press review layout can be controlled completely by setting parameters.
  • A PDF format press review
    The PDF format press review is a PDF file that includes a fly-leaf, a table of contents and some hyperlinks to give fast access to the articles of the review. The press review can be controlled completely by setting parameters.
  • An intranet press review
    The Intranet press review includes a table of contents featuring some hyperlinks to the articles of the review (TIFF or PDF format) and a browser used to select previous press reviews. The intranet press review layout can be controlled completely by setting parameters. ScanNews is a complete application. Every time you enter articles into your document database, you will be adding to a real documentary resource for your future use. With the RetrievalWare® module from Convera, you will be able to find your articles in the blink of an eye, searching on content and/or on metadata.

  • Administrator
    The Administrator module is used to manage your database and more specifically to edit the elements of the tables (adding the name of a publication to your list of newspapers, adding a topic, etc).
    Administrator is also used to carry out searches on the articles and to edit the descriptive data (metadata).
  • Capture
    The Capture module is used to scan source documents and/or import documents in GIF and TIFF format. Using high-speed scanners, an entire A2 page can be scanned in just a few seconds!
  • Cut and Paste
    The Cut&Paste module, using the latest technology, provides analysis and automatic cutting of source pages. Different blocks of colour are used so that headings, subheadings, graphics and blocks of text can all be distinguished instantly.
    With just a few simple clicks of the mouse, blocks within the source page can be selected and positioned automatically on an A4 target page! The user can then edit the layout.
    Before saving the article, metadata can be added: subjects, keywords, author of article, etc.
  • e-Capture
    The e-Capture module allows PDF and HTML format articles to be imported into the database. The articles are added without any need to use the cutting module and they are indexed in the Administrator module.
  • Review
    The Review module is used to publish press reviews and to export articles in different formats. The articles are selected on the basis of a certain range of dates and classified automatically according to their subjects. Modifications to this classification system can be made as required, simply by dragging and dropping.

    The Review module is used to export the articles and their metadata in accordance with a syntax defined in a script. During this procedure, the articles can also be processed by OCR (optical character recognition). TXT or PDF hidden text/image files can thus be created. Exporting articles and their metadata offers a route to use many different applications, and in particular their full-text search engines, e.g. Convera’s RetrievalWare.
  • Retrieval ware
    This module uses all the functions of the highly effective RetrievalWare search engine. You can find the press reviews created using ScanNews in the blink of an eye. You can carry out searches on their content and/or on their metadata and use the fuzzy matching functionality allowing the use of rough syntax.
