Frequently Asked Questions

IRISCan™ Anywhere 2

1) My PC doesn't recognise the scanner as an imaging device
The scanner is designed to be used disconnected from the computer until it is time to upload the images stored in memory. That could be the 512 MB internal memory, a USB flash drive or a SD card. With these last two when you leave those plugged into the scanner and connect the scanner to the computer you will see two devices connected, one for the scanner and the other for the USB Flash/SD card (must be formatted in FAT32).

Think of this scanner as a USB storage device that can scan. It is not a TWAIN based scanner so you cannot use any program to access it. When you scan it stores the images in memory until you connect it to the computer where is shows up as another drive letter in My Computer (Windows) or on the desktop (Mac).

2) Creation date of the files created by the IRISCan™ Anywhere 2 is void or nonsensical
The explanation of this behaviour is quite simple: there is no internal clock in the IRISCan™ Anywhere 2.
Therefore, the value of the date field is the equivalent of zero or is left void.
Windows XP is automatically filling the date field with a nonsensical date (1/1/1601) because this is the Microsoft's "zero date".
For further information about this, you can read this very interesting article about System time: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_time

This cannot be corrected by a firmware update because the IRISCan™ Anywhere 2 has no permanent clock circuit that would continue to count the time when the scanner is switched off.

3) My scans have a blueish background
Recalibrate the scanner using the calibration sheet provided with the scanner. If it doesn't help, update the scanner firmware. You will find the latest update at www.irislink.com/support/updates.

4) Is it possible to have the scanned saved to a DCIM folder?
With the latest IRISCan™ Anywhere 2 firmware, the scanner will now save the scanned images into a DCIM folder. You will find the latest firmware update at www.irislink.com/support/updates.

5) I have lost the calibration sheet. What can I do?
You can download a printable calibration sheet here (use only with the IRISCan™ Anywhere 2).
Dimensions: 21,8 cm x 6,5 cm.

6) How do I reset the IRISCan™ Anywhere 2 scanner?
If you encounter any issue with the scanner, you can try to reset it. To do so, you have to use a thin spike to press the button, which is located at the back of the device (the small hole). This is only applicable to the IRISCan™ Anywhere 2.

7) What's the use of the small piece of plastic covered with a white cloth?
This small piece of plastic can be used to clean the scanner lens. See the pictures below.
