Designer Module

The Designer module is used to create and design in the system the electronic templates of the paper documents to be processed in the main application. In the production line, the system will be able to identify each document type and to easily and quickly locate the data to be read.
The electronic templates also comprise the data necessary for performing the necessary pre-processing operations on the documents, as well as the properties and validation rules to be used for the automatic validation of the recognized data.

Production Interface Modules

Scan/Import: Multiple image sources
The documents may be scanned, faxed or recuperated from a file server.
The Scan module is used to send the necessary instructions for starting the scanning process. The scanned images can be viewed on screen as they are being scanned by the scanner.
The Import facility is used to import the images (and their metadata) that were stored in system database via external image acquisition software packages and I.R.I.S. FastLink. (See: High-speed scanning).

Form Identification: Identification of the document type
IRISCapture Pro for Forms fits the scanned image to the electronic template of the corresponding form using various criteria such as the text, titles, logos, background, size etc. An automatic quality control process redirects the unidentified images for specific processing.
IRISCapture Pro for Forms performs an automatic rotation of the images that were scanned the other way around or as landscape or portrait images.

The reading process is completely automated and provides a polling facility.
The module makes use of the latest developements in the field of OCR (Optical Character Recognition), ICR (Intelligent Character Recognition), OMR (Optical Mark Reading) and BCR (Bar Code Reading). Various recognition engines may be used as well a voting facility so as to get the best global recognition results. This dramatically reduces the correction workload.

JQC (Job Quality Control): Automatic detection of bad quality documents
The bad quality forms trigger of many errors and increase the workload linked to correction. The JQC module automatically detects if the quality of the images is lower than the one needed. The Job Quality Control is performed both on global document images and on the various document fields.

Correction: Computer-assisted correction process
The Correct module is used for an interactive correction. The objective is to double-check that all hand-written characters have been recognized properly by the system and, if necessary, correct them directly on screen.

Four correction tools are available for correction:

BCIP (Batch Character Imaging Processing): the tool is used to double- the hand-written characters recognized by the system, either individually or in their context. The operator can modify them or dump them for later processing. The BCIP tool is perfectly adapted for a “zero substitution” result.
Capture: the tool is used to encode free format hand-written characters or character strings using a pre-defined non-exhaustive list of items.
FMC (Field Mode Correction): the tool is used to double-check complete character fields, to easily capture the unrecognized characters and to correct ambiguous or badly recognized characters.
CAC (Computer Assisted Coding): the tool is used to easily and rapidly capture several hierarchically linked fields (e.g.: zip codes, towns, and streets).

Validation: Automatic and/or interactive validation
An interactive validation process is carried out according to the validation rules established for the fields when designing the electronic templates of the documents. An interactive validation further deals with the forms that do not comply with the validation rules. Whenever forms are incomplete or that the field data is unreadable, the operator may send “queries” to the people responsible for filling in the data and complete the fields later on
All data modifications are listed in a follow-up table. It is always possible to know who made the changes, when, and which data was actually modified.

Export: Export and possible re-export of data in different formats
The Export module provides a polling facility. The exported batches are not deleted from the database and always remain available for re-export in another format.
Two types of export files can be generated. They will either contain the whole bunch of processed data and will be named and numbered according to their export date, or they will be classified according to the different form types of the processed documents and will only contain the data resulting from the processing of a particular type of document. The system then uses its sorting facility which is activated when designing the form. The unidentified documents can also be exported.
