Ondit (a 100% I.R.I.S. affiliate) provides IOS International
with hosting, monitoring and back-up to enable their SaaS model
|
Louvain-la-Neuve,
31 August, 2010
– IOS International develops and distributes a software
platform called IOS (“Information On the Spot”) to
improve the productivity and quality of risk management in an
organization. Situated in Diepenbeek (Belgium), the company delivers
visualized and published knowledge to global risk management decision
takers, so that they can take well-founded decisions within the
shortest possible period of time. IOS offers a step-by-step
implementation, supported by IOS Mapper (a software application to make
an inventory and to inspect risk elements in domains such as
fire safety, physical security, environmental permit), IOS Publisher (a
web platform to centralize and publish risk information in a harmonized
emergency plan) and IOS Services (education, assistance, data
collection, data import, generation of reports and ICT services such as
installation, integration with existing systems, analysis and
development of tailor-made solutions). A unique integration of CAD and
ERP data ensures asset management in the broad sense of the word and
makes data actionable, allowing customers to increase their efficiency
on various levels.
“The
IOS technology platform is a state-of-the-art multi-layer Java platform
which targets a market much larger than Belgium, since our software is
applicable on a global level. A SaaS model could offer us access to a
much broader market. I was quickly convinced by the numerous advantages
of SaaS, like the quick implementation process, low set-up costs and
pay per use. An ideal solution for a flexible and quickly expanding
company like IOS International,”
says Leon Rousseau, CEO of IOS International.
Rob Roes, Account Manager Managed Services at Ondit, explains:
“IOS
International now rents our server capacity: they use our
infrastructure platform based on IBM System x and VMware vSphere. This
platform hosts IOS Mapper and IOS Publisher, which can now be offered
as a service to IOS customers. As a result, customers do not have to
invest in their own infrastructure to run the IOS application: they
only need a Java-enabled pc with internet access.”
“The collaboration with
Ondit went very smoothly, to the extent that the actual installation
was a non-event. We are now fully operational and have several
customers already using our software as a service, to the point that
SaaS is now included by default in every proposal to a potential new
customer. We are still fine-tuning our offering and have recently
carried out some stress tests – simulating hundreds of
concurrent users of the system. The tests went without a hitch and we
are really pleased with how things are going. We are very satisfied
with the performance of the system and have Ondit’s guarantee
that the server is up and running 24/7. Our customers also react very
positively to the new service, confirming us in our conviction that
this is a win-win situation for all parties involved,”
says Jan Veltens, Account Manager at IOS International.
Frank Huyge, generale manager of Ondit : “This collaboration shows
that Ondit is a perfect match as infrastructure partner for ISVs
(independent software vendors) like IOS International. The
infrastructure platform used by IOS International is situated in
Ondit’s data center in Antwerp, while all data is duplicated
to a fully redundant second datacenter in Mechelen. Ondit’s
hosting services allow IOS International to only pay for the capacity
they need. Ondit is also responsible for monitoring the system to
detect defects quickly and accurately before they lead to bigger
failures. Detected errors are dispatched by sms, so that adequate
measures can be taken. Finally, Ondit also ensures a 30 day back-up of
the entire installation, whereas IOS International is responsible for
back-up on tape of the individual client data.”
“We are often talking to
end-users, who are not necessarily aware of the IT implications of
their wishes – they just want a solution! Now they can simply
subscribe to our software, while we take over some of the
responsibilities of the customer’s internal IT staff as far
as system continuity and back-ups are concerned. They now have a very
easy internet access to our software and do no longer have to invest in
their own infrastructure to run the IOS application,” says
Piet Boes, Sales & Marketing Director at IOS
International. “Since
the IOS
platform has been adopted by organizations of all sizes and different
levels of IT maturity, the SaaS model helps streamlining the
installation process of the software. SaaS no longer requires on-site
installation of the software. Moreover, new upgrades or other system
changes are very easy and quick to install, as opposed to carrying out
the same change at our different customers separately. Easy management
was certainly a bonus for us internally,”
Piet Boes adds.
“In
fact, the SaaS solution plays a central role in our growth story and
our plans for international expansion. We even dedicated a special work
group to the SaaS project, to follow-up on the project on a bi-weekly
basis, keep a finger on the pulse and identify potential new
opportunities. It is clear to us that this is the key to our future
success,” CEO Leon
Rousseau concludes.
